Iolite

 

 Iolite is the transparent or translucent variety οf Cordierite. The dark blue-purple color gave the Iolithos or iolite from ion (purple). Bicolor crystal, displays a different shade of blue, purple or colorless, depending on the viewing angle. Cyclosilicate material creates crystals in the orthorhombic crystallographic system. In its chemical composition it contains iron, aluminum and magnesium which give it the characteristic deep blue color. We also know it by the ancient name of "water sapphire".

The Vikings used it as a compass in their travels. Due to its strong color, they could determine the position of the sun even with heavy clouds. Iolite is found in Myanmar (Burma), Sri Lanka, Australia, Namibia, Tanzania and Madagascar.

The Stone of the manipura chakra, the 3rd chakra of the solar plexus, iolite helps us to accept ourselves, to drive away the clouds of depression and to face life with vigor.

Iolite activates our receptivity to stellar forces and changes in aura fields. Stone of visions, leads in dream interpretation and intuition. It helps us organize the inner chaos and visualize the changes that need to be made in our lives and in the lives of the people we love.
